Antique French S&G Flowers Terre de Fer Bird Plate, Clairefontaine, Circa 1890
An antique French Terre de Fer plate in the Flowers pattern by S&G, associated with the Clairefontaine faience factory.
The design has a wonderfully collected feel, with two birds resting along a flowering branch, delicate butterflies, and small blooms gathered near the base of the scene. It is a beautiful piece for a plate wall, open kitchen shelving, or layered into a French country table setting.
The back is marked TERRE DE FER and stamped with the S&G / Flowers mark. The reverse shows age-related irregularities, along with an old chip around the back base edge that is not visible from the front and does not affect function.
