Antique French Sarreguemines Bertha Blue Transferware Plate
An antique French Sarreguemines Bertha plate, sourced in France, with a blue floral transferware border on a warm ivory ground.
The Bertha pattern has a delicate old-world feel, with scrolling blue borderwork and soft floral garlands around the rim. One of the loveliest age clues is the slight irregularity in the transfer pattern, where the design appears interrupted along one edge and lightly duplicated in another. These small imperfections speak to the older transfer process and give the plate the collected character that makes antique French tableware so special.
The back is stamped “BERTHA” and has impressed/debossed mold marks, another beautiful detail that points to the age and earlier manufacturing of the piece. A lovely plate for a French country shelf, plate wall, open kitchen display, or layered into a collected table setting.
