Description:

An antique French work brush with a rounded wooden handle, dense natural horsehair bristles, and a circular wooden brush head worn dark from age and use.

The form is simple and wonderfully useful, with a sturdy upright handle, a hanging hole through the top, and a fine incised line around the handle and top that gives the piece just enough detail. The wood has a deep, time-darkened surface with rubbed edges, small dents, scuffs, and old marks throughout. Around the rim, the indentations and softened wear speak clearly to its life as a working object.

I chose this piece for its honest utility and strong surface. The proportion is excellent, small enough to style easily, but substantial enough to hold its own. The dense bristles, dark wood, hanging hole, and old work-worn patina give it the kind of quiet authority that makes a simple shelf or work table feel finished.

Condition:

Good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. The brush is sturdy, with dense bristles and no structural issue noted.

The wood shows surface wear, scuffs, dents, darkening, and use marks throughout. There is a faint earthy oil or workshop scent, not unpleasant, and consistent with an old utilitarian object that may have been used or stored in a working space.
