Description:

A French opaline glass briquet de bureau, or desk lighter, sourced in Paris, with thick white opaline glass, warm gilt metal mounts, small ball feet, and its butane lighter insert included.

The opaline has a beautiful thickness and soft milky glow, with a subtle red fire-like warmth that appears through the glass in certain light. The gilt brass trim includes a small egg-and-dart pattern, adding a classical decorative detail to the piece and giving the opaline body a more finished, architectural edge.

Inside are the old French instruction paper and small tools, including a tiny wrench and Allen-style tool. The paper includes French lighter-related wording such as briquet de bureau, butane, allumage, la flamme, recharge, and changement de pierre, helping confirm its original use as a French desk lighter.

This piece is sold as shown with the removeable butane insert in place. It has not been tested as a working lighter and may also be styled decoratively with matchsticks on a desk, mantel, bar cart, bedside table, or layered French vignette.

Condition:

Good vintage condition with visible age, patina, and oxidation to the gilt metal. There is visible oxidation underneath one ball foot, consistent with age and use. The lighter has not been tested and is sold as shown, for decorative use or display. Any oxidation, age-related wear, and patina are considered part of the vintage character of the piece. Sold as is. Please see photos carefully.
