Large Antique French Gilt Metal Oval Frame with Bow Crest

Regular price $235.00

A large antique French gilt metal oval frame, sourced in Paris, with a romantic bow crest, tiny roses, ivy detail, and a double beaded border around the front.

This is one of those pieces that immediately feels like it belongs in an old Paris apartment, holding a photograph, a handwritten note, a small portrait, or a fragment of antique paper. The frame has a beautiful storybook quality, with roses gathered into the bow at the top and ivy-like ornament wrapping around the oval form. The front is gilded with a warm aged finish, while the back shows the quieter evidence of use over time.

The frame is currently styled with antique French document paper cut to fit inside. The paper is included as shown, giving the piece an old-world layered look, though it could easily be replaced with a photograph, silhouette, miniature artwork, or another favorite fragment.

The piece has an easel back for tabletop display, as well as a loop for hanging on the wall. It does lean back more noticeably when standing, as many older easel frames can, but it may be gently adjusted or modified if a straighter display is desired. It will also sit a little straighter when placed carefully on a table or shelf.

A special large French frame for a mantel, bedside table, writing desk, bookshelf, gallery wall, or any collected room that needs a little romance and age.

Condition:

Good antique condition with visible age, patina, surface wear, scratches to the back, and small irregularities to the frame. The front is gilded; the back does not appear to be gilded in the same way and shows age-related wear. The back retaining metal has broken over time, so the backing is currently held in place with tape. The easel back is present and functional, though the frame leans back more significantly than it sits upright. Any wonky indenting, patina, scratches, age-darkening, and old repairs are considered part of the antique character of the piece. Sold as is. Please see photos carefully.
