Small Antique French Mischievous Figural Statuette
A small antique French figural statuette, sourced in Paris, cast in a bronze or bronze-alloy metal with an aged gilt finish and verdigris throughout.
The figure has a wonderfully playful presence, showing a woman lifting her dress and glancing back over her shoulder. Her hair is partially pulled back with a bow, while the folds of her dress move around her figure, giving the tiny sculpture a surprising amount of character for its size.
The piece is cold to the touch, heavy for its scale, and has a clear ringing sound when lightly tapped, all consistent with cast metal. The surface shows hand-finished details, with visible casting evidence underneath, softened seam areas, and the point where the figure was attached to the base. The handled areas have a gentle sheen, while the verdigris is heaviest around the base and recessed areas.
A cheeky little French piece for a bookshelf, desk, cabinet of curiosities, mantel, or layered vignette.
