Vintage Framed Boy Silhouette Portrait
A vintage framed boy silhouette portrait with a hand-cut mat, pen-and-ink border detail, painted black frame, and wonderful warm brown tones. The young boy is shown in profile, with charming little sprigs of hair and a crisp collar that gives the piece a classic schoolboy or sailor-collar feeling.
Silhouette portraits like this have become very collectible again, especially for gallery walls, staircases, children’s rooms, studies, and layered collected interiors. This one has especially good character, with the soft aged paper, hand-drawn border, dark profile, and worn black frame all working together beautifully.
The frame has visible handling wear, with warm undertones showing through the painted black surface. It is difficult to tell whether the underlayer is earlier gilding or simply the wood and older finish showing through, but the wear gives the frame a beautiful lived-in quality and makes the piece feel authentic and storied.
