A faint handwritten name or inscription is visible around the underside, but it is not legible enough to identify the maker confidently. Part of the base is covered by a later felt furniture pad.

Wheel-thrown lines, slight variations in form, and visible impressions on the underside reflect its handmade construction.

Description:

A generously proportioned vintage studio pottery crock with a small applied handle, rounded rim, and warm, earthy brown surface.

The restrained form and visible throwing lines give it the character of traditional utilitarian pottery, while its compact handle and softly irregular finish reveal the hand of its maker. The interior carries deep mottled coloration and staining that creates a rich, aged appearance.

Studio pottery of the later 20th century often drew inspiration from early household stoneware, favoring useful forms, natural clay bodies, and subdued earth-toned glazes.

An unidentified sticky or tacky substance is present around much of the exterior surface. Its origin is unknown and it has not been removed. A felt furniture pad has been applied to the underside.
